Mark, Set, Go: Nutrition & Physical Activity Program
"Mark Set Go", a school and community based program, designed to promote healthy eating,
exercise aimed towards 5th and 6th graders and their families.
Specifically designed for minority children who have alarmingly high
rates of childhood obesity, Mark, Set, Go! uses minority high
school students as peer health educators in the classroom.
The workshop uses age appropriate educational materials
focusing on healthy life-style choices. Now in it's second year the
eight week workshop series has been successfully conducted in five
inner city Providence Schools: Veazie Street, Sofia Academy, Paul
Cuffee, Sackett Street, and Bailey Elementary School. Through a
grant from Coastway Credit Union the program was also conducted at
the Rudolph Tavares Community Center and the John Hope Settlement
House.
